5th Grade

Curriculum

Fifth grade students continue to read novels to develop vocabulary and comprehension. Those include Island of the Blue Dolphins, Caddie Woodlawn and The Door in the Wall.

Saxon math continues to develop math skills in computation, algebra, geometry and number sense.

Shurley Grammar develops the ability to write a quality report, essay or story. Purposeful Design guides students in spelling.

Students enter modern times in The Story of the World for history, and science is developed through materials from BJU Press.

Bible study continues with the inductive method as students study the books of John and Revelation.

Special Events

  • A “Wax Museum” to illustrate Christian missionaries and raise money for mission
  • “Book Buffet” to eat foods associated with a novel that each student has read
  • Serving as reading buddies with kindergarten students
  • As a service project, the fifth grade class will help distribute toys collected by elementary students for the local Kiwanis Toy Drive at Christmas.

Teacher Bio

Terri Kolekofski, our fifth grade teacher, has 12 years of teaching experience, including six at WCA. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Tampa, as well as a Master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University.
