College Test Preparation: We take one morning each fall to give our 9th-11th graders practice on the very important college entrance tests. To read more about these tests, go to sat.collegeboard.org (PSAT) or www.actstudent.org (PLAN).

WCA PSAT/PLAN test date: Wednesday, October 12, 2011

9th grade: PSAT
The PSAT is a practice for the SAT college entrance exam.  We introduce our students to the PSAT in the 9th grade year so they are familiar with it before they take it as a junior, when students are competing for the National Merit Scholarship program.

10th grade: PLAN
The PLAN is the pre-ACT college entrance exam. Students may choose to take either the SAT or the ACT college entrance exam their junior year, or they may take both. Most colleges accept either, and some students do better on one or the other. We give the PLAN to all sophomores to prepare them for the ACT; it also includes an interest and career section, which some students find helpful.

11th grade: PSAT
The PSAT is given the junior year as a practice for the SAT and for possible qualification in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

12th grade: Seniors do not test on this day since they have hopefully completed their college entrance exams.
