This Wednesday, March 28 at 8:30 a.m., Williamsburg Christian Academy will begin the school day with its traditional “Flowering of the Cross” ceremony, held just before Easter each year. The senior class will host this respectful and reflective event, when all school families and students are invited to bring flowers to place on the cross.

This year’s ceremony will begin with prayer, led by a 12th grade student, for our mission teams going out during spring break, one to New York City and the other to the Dominican Republic. Representatives from the senior class will read scripture while soft music is played by senior Hannah Laurel on keyboard. During this time, classes from preschool through 12th grade will each come forward with flowers. The high school choir will close the ceremony with a song.

Congratulations to WCA’s Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team, who received third place in their division in the 30th Annual Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on Feb. 25. The tournament was held at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Va.

WCA’s team was assigned a problem called “Ooh-Motional Vehicle,” which required teams to design, build and drive a vehicle that would travel a course where it encountered three different situations. The vehicle was to display a different human emotion for each encounter and one would cause it to travel in reverse. Teams created themes for their presentations that incorporated the vehicle and the different emotions. The emphasis was on the technical risk-taking and creativity of the vehicle’s engineering for travel and change of emotional appearance.

Faculty coaches for WCA’s team were Mrs. Beth Fletcher and Mrs. Eunice Clark.

February 15 marked the end of a six-week school-wide contest to determine which WCA class could collect the most Box Tops for Education, which raise funds for the school. The winning class, Mrs. Randall’s kindergarten, collected 1,225 Box Tops during the contest and was rewarded today, March 6, with a pizza party!

Last school year, WCA earned $350 through the Box Tops for Education program. Our goal this year is $1,000, and with the help of WCA families and this contest, we have already reached that $1,000 goal, and it’s only March!

Box Tops Contest Results:  Over 2,500 box tops were collected during the six-week contest period!

1st Place: Congratulations to Mrs. Randall’s kindergarten class, who submitted 1,225 Box Tops and won a pizza party for their class!
2nd Place: Mrs. Seymour’s class, thanks to 385 Box Tops submitted by Joshua Wert.
3rd Place: Mrs. Eckhoff’s class, who submitted 320 Box Tops.

Thank you to all families who participated, and a special thanks to parent volunteer Terri Cordle, WCA’s Box Top Coordinator, for organizing this fun contest!

Parents can clip Box Tops from hundreds of food products, and each one is worth $0.10, paid directly to WCA from the Box Tops for Education program.

Please continue to drop off your Box Tops, Labels for Education, Tyson A+ frozen chicken labels and Farm Fresh receipts in the “treasure box” located in the school foyer – we collect them all year!  Thank you!
