This spring in WCA high school strings, in honor of the eastern-style musical piece “Dragon Dances,” students learned all about a harmony created in the church of medieval times and still present in many Asian cultures — Quartal Harmony. This harmony is created by having two or more voices move in parallel perfect fourths.

Strings students learned how to make sushi and played a game in which they created the musical intervals of 4 and 3 (Perfect 4ths and Major/Minor 3rds) using the sushi as the “notes” and the chopsticks as the “musical staff.”

HRACS is an organization of approximately 23 Christian schools throughout Hampton Roads, with a vision to promote Christian education in the area and provide resources for parents seeking to provide a Christian education for their children.

HRACS holds quarterly meetings hosted at various member schools, along with an annual winter conference for professional development. This year’s conference was held on February 17 at Greenbrier Christian Academy with approximately 450 educators in attendance.

Gwen Martin’s election as president follows two years of service as vice president of the organization, as well as two years on the HRACS winter conference planning committee. Other officers-elect for 2012-2013 are as follows: Daun Hester of Calvary Christian School in Norfolk as vice president, Mabel Nelson of Warwick River Christian School in Newport News as secretary, and Ron White of Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake as treasurer.

Williamsburg Christian Academy is a community-based, interdenominational Christian school (preschool through 12th grade) working in partnership with Christian families to provide students with a Christ-centered, college preparatory education so that God’s purposes can be fulfilled in them, both personally and vocationally.

WCA’s girls varsity soccer team broke into the top 10 of Div. 2 teams in the state this week at #9. This is the first time our girls soccer team has ever been ranked in the top 10 in the state, which is quite an accomplishment!

The Lady Eagles defeated Hampton Christian on Tuesday to lock up second place in the Metro Conference regular season. With our 3-2 loss to Denbigh Baptist on Saturday afternoon in the cold and rain, Denbigh finished in first place for the regular season. However, this is the highest any WCA girls soccer team has ever finished in the Metro.

This feat has earned our team a first-round bye and we will most likely face Atlantic Shores on Thursday, May 10 in the semifinals of the Metro Tournament. This game will be hosted at our home field at 4:00 p.m., so please come out and cheer your team on to victory!

The girls soccer team finished up their Metro regular season with 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. They will finish up their overall regular season on Thursday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m., playing away at non-conference opponent Christchurch, who is currently tied with WCA at #9 in the state. Best wishes the rest of the way for our Lady Eagles!
